Assolda villagers oppose rail freight terminal project
The residents of Assolda Village Panchayat have expressed their strong opposition to the proposed Rail Freight Terminal project to be constructed by Sociadade De Fomento industries at Assolda and Xic Xelvona. At a special gram sabha held at the village panchayat hall, the members passed a resolution opposing the rail freight terminal project to be constructed for handling multi cargo. The meeting was presided by sarpanch Dayanand Naik. The gram sabha was also attended by local MLA Nilesh Cabral, Xeldem ZP member Hazel Fernandes, ex-sarpanch Tony Fernandes, ex-minister Ramrao Dessai and villagers.
Addressing the gram sabha, MLA Cabral said that the project of Fomento Company will not be allowed at any cost in Assolda VP. Cabral said that he will not allow any project that causes pollution in his constituency. Cabral said, If required, I will take the matter to the courts and will bear all expenses.
Ex-minister and resident of Xelvona Ramarao Dessai said that he does not understand how the project has obtained the Environment clearance. The company obtained the environment clearance on December 16, 2015.
Another resolution was passed stating that the village panchayat will not issue NOC to any project in the future without taking the villagers into confidence. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Manojkumar Naik. NT
