Gwen Stefani, lead singer of No Doubt, joined her husband, Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, for a rare duet during KROQ s annual Almost Acoustic Christmas over the weekend. The Almost Acoustic Christmas event is a very sentimental event to both artists, as they met in a dressing room at the same show 17 years earlier. The rock & roll husband and wife celebrated their history at the event by surprising guests with an unannounced performance together.
Rossdale, on stage with just a guitar, started in on the Bush hit Glycerine, singing the song s first verse alone. Joining in on the second verse, Stefani walked on stage unannounced to join which brought a huge response from fans. Rossdale said that the initial idea for a duet was Stefani s, and it left him speechless.
She actually asked me about this and I was so surprised, I didn t say anything for two days, he said. She said, Maybe we should do a song together. And I couldn t answer her.
The two worked out the logistics and settled on Glycerine rather than The Afterlife , which Rossdale said is Gwen Stefani s favorite song. It was Rossdale s idea to perform the song alone. I thought it would be so powerful, the two of us on stage like that, that s what we went for, he said.
For Rossdale, it was the perfect ending to a special evening. This is the culmination of two years of work, and then to finish it off playing here, in this venue, this full circle thing, it was an incredible night. Rossdale and Stefani married in 2002 and have two children together, Kingston, 6, and Zuma, 4.
Both of their bands, No Doubt and Bush, broke out in the 1990 s and are still touring today. Nothing says romance like a power couple being able to stand the test of time and fame, commemorating the anniversary of the first time they first met by performing an intimate duet.
