ALAN to Participate in Disaster Response Integrative Logistics (DRIL)

The Institute for Defense and Business (IDB), in partnership with Lockheed Martin and its Center for Innovation, has formed a consortium of disaster relief focused organizations from the private, voluntary, governmental and military sectors to design, develop and deliver a joint humanitarian relief response exercise that will take place November 5-9 in Suffolk, VA. This multi-day exercise will simulate the response to complex disasters and immerse participants in a realistic, powerful learning experience. The exercise will focus on the planning, logistics, transportation, distribution, and other supply chain challenges to effective disaster response.

During the exercise, participants will discover innovative ways to improve logistics integration and intergovernmental, interagency, and international collaboration. It will involve approximately 150 participants from 50-60 organizations from the military, corporate, governmental, NGO, and international sectors. The exercise will involve both domestic and international scenarios in the Southeastern United States and the Caribbean basin.

The daily agenda will involve hands-on interaction that is both face-to-face and electronic, in order to respond to the dynamics of the exercise scenario. Exercise monitors will hold thorough debriefings to capture lessons identified and distill other key findings. The exercise outcomes will be a catalyst for change in the way the logistics community responds to disasters, especially those that impact the global supply chain.

Those outcomes will include new ways of improving cooperation and reducing costs in logistics, identifying supporting tools and technologies, guiding policy changes and preparing the participating organizations for their next response to disaster. **KF NOTE: This needs to be edited prior to go live as this was copy/pasted from invitation. **
